Dear Friend of 745, we do not want to disappoint you by not having the engine fired up and giving rides for our annual event. As a result we will postpone the Christmas Party at the LASTA yard, 1501 Jefferson Highway, for one week to next Sunday noon to 3:00. By then we hope to have better weather and our locomotive crew healthy again. We apologize if this causes any inconvenience.
Thanks in advance for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you there.

LASTA’ s Chief Mechanical Officer Erich Scholz passexd away unexpectedly on June 11, 2013. He was an integral member of the crew and will be missed greatly. LASTA is working hard to arrange and hold its annual celebration of Louisiana’s railroad heritage, STEAMFEST. Due to conflicts with the levee raising project, Audubon Institute was unable to approve our requested SteamFest dates of May 18-19. The preceding weekend, May 11-12, was subsequently approved by the Board as a viable alternative. Unfortunately, not only is May 12th Mother’s Day, but a special free concert starring Irma Thomas is scheduled at the zoo that day. Heavy crowds and traffic are expected; parking will be at a premium.
One or two alternatives are being explored, but we can give neither a firm date nor a location for STEAMFEST 2013 at this moment. Nevertheless, your dedicated Crew continues to press forward with preparations to have SP 745 fired while on display. Also, a wide variety of attractions are planned, from the kiddee train rides and inflatables for children, as well as model trains, and maritime steam engines and other artifacts on display and operating courtesy of Ellsworth Insurance.
Currently, efforts are focused on finding a location to hold STEAMFEST on the weekend of May 18-19. Rest assured, we will issue an update as soon as we have definite information.

The Annual Meeting will be held on Friday, November 30th at 7:00pm in the Jefferson car.
The annual meeting originally schedule for Nov 4th has been postponed. LASTA will post the new date as soon as possible.
Dear LASTA Members, your LASTA Crew will be in attendance at this year’s Gretna Heritage Festival, however the 745 locomotive and her cars will not. This unfortunate circumstance is due to lack of available rail to switch our equipment caused by the reconfiguration of the yard and adjoining track along the main line. Your Crew continues their efforts to reconfigure track for more mobility in the yard as our stopgap measure until the new location is secured. Plan to come see all the work at the upcoming Christmas party in December. The exact date will be annouced soon.
Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing you at the GretnaFest. Stop by and say hi!
LASTA will be present staffing our booth at the usual location on 4th St. and Huey P. Long Ave. along with Operation Lifesaver. We will support our sponsor Ellsworth Corporation with their maritime steam exhibit.
