Progress Update: SP 745 Moves Closer to Rebuild
Over the past several months, much of our focus has been dedicated to relocating our equipment from the south yard. While this work temporarily delayed the start of the locomotive’s rebuild, we’re pleased to share some updated information.
With our move out of the South Yard complete, we can begin turning our attention back to SP 745. Over the next several weeks, we will begin some initial preparatory work necessary for the 1472 rebuild as well as the move to Garyville. Some of the work to be performed includes the brake system service and evaluation, a thorough running gear inspection, surface rust preventive maintenance, and other items preparatory to the scheduled move.
These are just the beginning steps as we move forward with a rebuild that is up to today’s FRA standards and our grant funding obligations. We thank our members, volunteers and followers for your continued support. Each phase—relocation, preparation, and restoration—brings us closer to seeing SP 745 operate once again.
